can anybody answer me if the 60s was for rock and roll or hippy, as we are going away on a 60s weekend and want to dress up in fancy dress, although we are not sure what to look for..would it be things like elvis, teddy boys for the man or hippy, and for a women would it be the rock and roll skirts and dressess or again the hippy look…any help will be appreciated.

Cool stuff. Bell bottom jeans and maybe v-necked shirts? And it was hippyness.
Hippy stuff. Peace Love and happiness.
Ever heard of Google Images?
Bell Bottom Jeans
Tie Dyed T-Shirts
Platform Shoes
Big Tweety Bird Sunglasses
I can tell you one thing they didn’t wear…………………BRAS
It depended on who you were and what you were about. If you pretty much swung to the conservative side, then a girl would wear a mini skirt, one of those turtle neck tops that zipped at the neck and "go-go" boots. She’d wear her hair teased and flipped with a wide headband. Maybe she would wear flats with a square heel and toe with a huge buckle on them and knee socks. If she swung to the ‘hippy’ side, she’d wear sandals or go bare foot, bell bottom, hip-hugger jeans, a peasant top and never forget your "love beads"! If you added a suede, fringed vest to the mix, that meant your parents had money lol. Fancy dress? A chiffon or sequinned dress would do for a woman or a suit for a guy – with a skinny tie and pointed ankle boots. Maybe a "nudie" suit…it’s a specific kind of suit worn by men only in the 60s. It also depends on whether or not you’re talking the early 60s or the late 60s because the early 50swere still heavily influenced by the 1950s while the hippies and the British invasion dictated style in the late 60s.
Doing a google search doesn’t always return favorable results…people who are putting that together werent even IN the 60s and get the 60s mixed up with the 70s a lot. It’s best to ask someone who actually lived in the era. Go to http://www.hulu.com and look up some TV shows and see for yourself…watch a few episodes of "Dragnet" or "Adam-12" for the hippy/british/late 60s look or watch "The Dick Van Dyke Show" for the early 60s look. That’s more accurate.
