Pandb’s travel blog entry: “Bridget writes We have just returned from a 5 day trip exploring inland Turkey and what an eye opener it turned out to be. We travelled 2200 kilometres, mainly in an easterly direction and saw the incredible changing landscape that went from vast fertile valleys, and snow covered mountains, to the conical rock outcrops (known as Fairy Chimneys) in the region called Cappadocia. The trip was organised by Gwen, a Canadian live aboard in a neighbouring marina, and there were 5 couples, a guide, (Nevruz, who is very knowledgeable and funny) and driver, (Ahmed, who is married to a lady from Coventry!) and we had 4 nights in 3 hotels over 5 days. The weather varied from warm sun to snow and very heavy rain with strong winds and I must admit that I wasn’t prepared for such cold weather!! Luckily Peter had a spare pair of socks but we could both have done with thicker coats. Apparently this weather is not normal for this time of year!! One of the highlights of the trip was the Turkish Night where we were treated to a performance by the Whirling Dervishes as well as a Belly Dancer and some Cossack style dancing by the men. It was good to get back home after living out of a suitcase – I could never have been a travelling salesman -and sleep in our own bed. Even the marina showers seemed good …
